Punky and the rest of the gang:

I had the same problems with my XandrOS desktop and a USB multiple card 
reader.  The 2.6 kernel after an update started recognizing the device 
as an ehci instead of an ohci and made it unusuable.  Your best bet if 
you have such problems with USB devices is to blacklist ehci_hcd and 
prevent it from being loaded.  This can be done at 
/etc/hotplug/blacklist.  Just add a line containing ehci_hcd and you 
should be OK.
