[Voyage-linux] Samba on Voyage Linux

I followed the manual customization procedure in the wiki to install the
smbfs and smbclient packages into my Voyage Linux image. When I run the
smbclient command on the Soekris box, it works fine. However, I have
problems with the smbmount command. When I run smbmount on the Soekris box
to mount a samba share on a remote windows box, I get the error "Can't get
/etc/mtab~ lock filesmbmnt failed: 1" (notice the ~). I assume this is
because the root filesystem is mounted read-only by Voyage Linux. I did
notice that /etc/mtab is symlinked to /proc/mounts but there is no
/etc/mtab~.

Any ideas how to fix this? Has anyone tried mounting samba shares in Voyage
Linux?
