[Voyage-linux] Problems with net5501 / voyage / USB gadget

Hi all,

i already posted this on the Soekris mailling list:

I want to set up my net5501, so that the USB port can be connected to a Windows PC [1], where it should be recognized as a new ethernet device like described in [2] (as i understand, the board/USB chipset is supported for gadgets with the newest voyage update?).
First question is, what kind of USB cable do i have to chose?! I read at [3] that a Host-to-Host cable is neccessary? Or A-to-A-Adapters? I know both aren't officially certified...

The second problem deals with the USB gadget driver. On a CF card, an update of voyage (0.4.1, 23 Jul 2007) is installed. Then i did the reconfiguration of the kernel for USB gadget support (amd5536udc/amd5536uoc, g_ether), recompiled the modules and had a reboot.

The modules seemed to be copied correctly (g_ether.ko, amd5536udc.ko, amd5536uoc.ko in /lib/modules/2.6.20.3-ubuntu1/kernel/drivers/usb/gadget/), but when calling

modprobe g_ether

the driver fails:

WARNING: Error inserting amd5536udc (/lib/modules/2.6.20.3-ubuntu1/kernel/drivers/usb/gadget/amd5536udc.ko):
No such device
FATAL: Error inserting g_ether (/lib/modules/2.6.20.3-ubuntu1/kernel/drivers/usb/gadget/g_ether.ko):
Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)

And when calling dmesg:

g_ether: Unknown symbol usb_gadget_register_driver
g_ether: Unknown symbol usb_gadget_unregister_driver

Can anyone help? Thanks a lot!

Regards,
Jan

[1] There are several reason to do this - i know it's easier to use one of the numerous LAN-Ports :-)
