[Voyage-linux] Time/Date Issues

Thank you guys for your suggestion.

I'm looking at a Mini-PCI GPS solution at the moment to see if things will work out for me that way, It's something I've been thinking about for unit positioning anyway so could be a nice benefit.

The unit might go for a few weeks without an internet connection but if it were to draft by a minute or two that wouldn’t be the absolute end of the world. I'd love it if I can just connect an inline battery for the CMOS chip to keep it alive. I've spoken to my PCB manufacturer this morning in the hope that they'll be able to come up with something to sit on the board and keep the clock alive.

Mike, do you have any more details on the battery connection that is available, I'm sure that's going to be the simplest solution for the moment to save me writing something that'll work with GPS.

Hi Robert,

I used ntp time sync in my server (this server that powers this mailing 
list) that points to a GPS ntp time sync source (stratum 1).  So I know 
that GPS can be used for the time sync.

I think a small GPS device with serial (rs232) or USB line should do the 
job.  But you will need some hacking:

I never had GPS experience, but I know someone (and met him last week) 
in the list that is very experience in electronic/radio communications.
