[Voyage-linux] upgrade to Lenny

Hey,

I am running voyage 0.4.1 with a self modified kernel 2.6.20. As
aptitude dist-upgrade only gives me security updates and I need the
newest gcc version 4.3, I was thinking about upgrading to debian lenny.

How do you keep your system up to date? What would happen if I would
perform a dist-upgrade to lenny? Would I still be able to work with my
2.6.20 kernel? Or should I (/would it be possible to) install 2.6.23
from voyage 0.5 and perform my modifications again?

Another possibility would be to define lenny instead of etch in
apt.source and only perform a "safe upgrade" not a dist-upgrade. that
would install new versions of me debian packages (including gcc) but not
modify the kernel, wouldn't it)

What do you suggest? What what is the best solution to stay up to date.

Further information: I needed to modify the voyage kernel to support a
sata card (sata_sil), parport printer and kernel quota support.

Thank you and best regards,
Benjamin
