and there are other ugly hacks, like for example Sven-Ola's txstophack.patch.
as most of my atheros radios are meraki mini, i use OpenWRT Kamikaze(r10223) 
on them, and there happend *a*lot* of fixing madwifi for adhoc, and it works
*much* better now (no idea, how fast/how much of that goes upstream).
And on my laptop, i'm using the ath5k driver now (which is in mainsteam kernel
from 2.6.24, iirc), and that works much better for me, too.

@ Xavier, there also happened *a*lot* of OLSRD development, i think they
are at Version 0.5.5 right now.
