[Voyage-linux] Help: Need RT2x00usb driver for Christmas present

Argh! Lack of planning on my part is no reason for urgency on anyone
else's, but it would be appreciated.
I'm building a digital photo-frame. I have all the software in place
and it works great. The last piece of the puzzle is to ditch the wired
ethernet and use wireless.
I bought this USB WiFi stick because it was known to be 100%
compatible with Linux. Now with less than 48 hours to go, I find the
driver isn't in Voyage-Linux. It seems to have been removed in 2006.
What options do I have?
I have the source of the driver, but there are warnings not to build
it for kernels after 2.6.22, because the driver is already in the
kernel. Not in the 2.6.26 (voyage 0.6 built 20081013) it isn't:
# CONFIG_RT2X00 is not set
and
# modprobe rt2x00usb
FATAL: Module rt2x00usb not found.
It would be really, really nice if someone could build this module for
me, if that will work. Or can I build the drivers from source since
the kernel module is disabled, or am I going to have to build the
kernel myself? (I've tried to build kernels a couple of times, and not
got anything to boot yet. *blush*)
