Hi,

You could use the I2C bus with some i/o expander, eg, PCF8574. It works 
quite well and is fully supported on Linux, although I you'll have to 
compile the module in Voyage. I've purchased multiple 'Ausgabekarte 
kits' from http://www.horter.de/shop/index.html with excelent results.
