Hi Frank,

I'm using a ALIX box with 256MB memory for user authentication with
squid - no logging. The system is running very well a couple of month
now.

Regards,
 Hermann

Subject: [Voyage-linux] proxy auth options?

I'm running voyage-lenny on an ALIX board (LX800/256RAM) for an
authenticating (non-caching) proxy server. I just need user
authentication and access control, no caching.

I think my options are:

Squid w/auth_param digest

cntlm /Samba ---> Tinyproxy

The question is which configuration would require fewer CPU and memory
resources to run? In the first option, I know cntlm and tinyproxy are
minimal but it would require a basic samba config also and samba can
be a resource hog. In the second option, I don't need the extra
headache of cntlm/Samba but Squid can be a resource hog. Hmmm...

Thoughts?
