Hi all,
I bought an alix3d3 and I'd like to use it a media center (not sure if it's
powerful enough, but I'll try).
I was surprised by how streamlined was the installation process, very
appreciated. :)
I'm struggling trying to see something on my PHILIPS LCD TV 32pf9731d with
VGA input.
The VGA input works fine with many laptops, so it cannot be the problem.
>From the manual:
- before connecting your PC to the TV, select your PC monitor settings to a
refresh frequency of
60 Hz;
- supported PC monitor modes:
VGA 640 x 480
SVGA 800 x 600
XGA 1024 x 768
At work, with my external monitor the alix works just fine, but I can't
manage to see anything on the LCD TV at home.
I tried to to edit grub with all kind of vga=xxx taken from
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VESA_BIOS_Extensions#Linux_video_mode_numbers ,
but either the TV goes out of synch or it shows a flickering image of the
POST (even if the alix correctly booted and I can access it via ssh).
An other route I was trying to follow was to fire up X so that I wouldn't
have to care if the text based boot would not be visible, so after reading
the voyage mailing list I did the following:
apt-get update
apt-get install xorg
apt-get install openbox
apt-get install xdm
While connected to the LCD screen at home, nothing changed (still out of
synch or flickering), but the bad news is that now even connected to the
monitor at work I can see only the text boot sequence but after a while the
screen goes black (I guess when xdm kicks in).
Any idea?
Thank you,
alfonso
