[Voyage-linux] syslogd delay on startup

Couldn't find a reference to this in the list archives.

ALIX 2D3 running voyage-0.6.1. On startup there is about a 20 second
delay while syslogd is starting up. dmesg prints:

---[snip]---
Starting system log daemon: ((20 seconds later...))
syslogd/usr/sbin/syslogd: timed out waiting for child
---[snip]---

This same delay does not happen if I manually start the daemon.

---[snip]---
voyage:~# time /etc/init.d/inetutils-syslogd start
Starting system log daemon: syslogd.

real	0m0.117s
user	0m0.054s
sys	0m0.009s
---[snip]---

Google turns up several references to a FreeBSD patch. Anyone else seeing this?
