It is, but if the network is not always ready at this stage, which is
what the OP was asking for help for.

That is also a valid solution. I had a slightly different problem to
solve. The problem I had was with a WiMax connection, if we moved the
connection point the old IP address would not work, but since the
external link status never changed, the computer still assumed that the
original ip and routing information was valid.
