[Voyage-linux] Sierra MC8790 Modem restarting

I have an Alix6 board with an MC8790 Sierra modem installed. It is running
0.6.5 Voyage with 1.7.34 sierra driver.

dmesg output shows the modem repeatedly being connected and disconnected by
the USB subsystem (every 5-10 seconds).  It seems to be similar to a comment
in this thread that was never resolved.

I am guessing that this is not a voyage issue but rather the modem
repeatedly reseting itself somehow. However I can't find any postings
anywhere to back this up.

Has anyone else seen this or conversely run an MC8790 (or maybe MC8775)
recently on an ALIX board successfully using 0.6.5?
