I just posted a message to the asterisk forums about the same problem as Matt
has.

http://forums.digium.com/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=75062&sid=ad269c77c3fee832899cf2cfd708936b

After posting my question there, I came upon this thread.

It seems that the problem comes from the asterisk.ctl and asterisk.pid which
get written to the astrundir, but asterisk is not able to connect, saying
asterisk.ctl does not exist.
Nevertheless my astrundir folder is added to VOYAGE_SYNC_DIRS..

(I installed asterisk 1.6.2.10 as non-root to /home/asterisk/asterisk-bin,
on voyage linux v0.6.5).

Asterisk works fine if run in r/w mode, but voyage says 'Mount: / is busy'
when I do remountro.
When I reboot voyage linux, it even never goes into ro mode, probably due to
asterisk being started first..

I hope I have shed some more light on this situation, so as to help solving
this issue, if issue it is..
