[Voyage-linux] Network dhcp client

Hi,
I'm having a problem with my voyage-linux machine not always getting an ip address from a modem it's connected to.I'm using voyage 0.6.2 with an alix board.eth0 is configured as dhcp in /etc/network/interfaces.Hardware has been ruled out (board, network cable). I've tried 2 different modems (same model though).
I was also wondering what the dhcp client was.
Here's the interfaces file and some syslog info:

when getting an address:
