[Voyage-linux] Better network stability

Hi Wayne,

Thanks for the suggestions. A static IP is certainly an option, however we're often dealing with a clients network that we have no control over and they're sometimes reluctant to reserve us an IP to use.

I think you're right that static IP is the best option, however, I would still like to have a decent option for DHCP.

For instance (and I'm sorry for swearing) on my windows clients, they will recognise when the router-modem goes down and reestablish the connection once it come back to life, however the voyage systems on the same network do not.

I remember having this discussion a while back with someone and it was due to the fact that Linux, by default only tries to lease it's DHCP details when it first boots or has a network cable connected to it, not at any other time, is this correct?

My knowledge of the voyage networking config is fairly limited at the moment.

Thanks Wayne,

Robert

Hi Robert

Assuming you have a dsl router connected to eth0 use static IP's
between the router and voyage, if you need better dsl redundancy ping
me offlist.

Wayne
