I'm using a high end USB DAC with my Alix now. I was specifically
looking for a PCI sound card, as that is currently the only way to
play (without using Windows and a proprietary driver) hi-res material
above 24bit/96khz, i.e., I have some material that is 24bit/176.4khz.

P.S. One can listen to 24/176.4 over USB but it requires specific
drivers for OS and the USB DAC. Although, ALSA should soon have a USB
Class 2 Audio (different from USB 2.0) spec in their future release.
