Hey I really appreciate the advice. Unfortunately when I was talking about editing grub I used hda1 sda1 and even hd0 but always got the same result.
Another thought I had was to separate the boot partition from the root partition, however such attempts may have been misguided and still had the same result.

Try changing the root definition in GRUB from LABEL=ROOT_FS to /dev/hda1
I have seen this in a couple of older PCs, it seems that the initrd
kernel can't see the label of the voyage partition.
If hda1 one does not work, try /dev/sda1
