I prefer esmtp myself. Same goals, seems to be better code quality.
Have had problems with ssmtp, it has hard coded limits on sizes for
example that cause it to reject valid emails. I think I first noticed
this with voicemails from Asterisk.

It also seems to be buggy, with certain conditions causing it to try
and read indefinitely past the end-of-file. Yes, I reported this as a
bug. Over a year ago now.
