[Voyage-linux] PXE booting with seperate boot partition (or smaller root partition)?

I've recently been trying to move from BSD to Linux on a few Soekris
net5501 boxes that I have. I have been following the instructions in
the /README.pxe file on the Live CD to install my system. I've also
checked the Wiki and Google and have yet to find an answer.
I have a 500GB SATA drive in the Soekris, and while the install
completes fine, the system hangs on boot with just "GRUB" on the
screen. I believe this may be similar to a problem I had with FreeBSD
that was solved when I made a smaller root partition rather than using
the entire disk as a single partition. In fact, the README file
mentions this briefly and suggests creation of a smaller root
partition but doesn't do into any details as to the process I should
use.
"- Sometimes, grub boot screen may not appear after BIOS post if the
boot partition is too large (~4GB). Creating a smaller boot partition
(512MB) and install Voyage to it may solve this issue."
Is there any way I can use the provided tools with the Live CD to
install the system and still create a partition layout that will allow
the system to boot?
I tried hitting 1 and manually creating the partition table with fdisk
and then running the installer, but the installer immediately
overwrites my partition table with a new one (specifically
format-cf.sh). I was going to try and modify the format-cf.sh file
myself but figured I would ask here first before I dug a hole too
deep.
Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide!
- Mike
