[Voyage-linux] Display garbled after boot [Was: 0.8.0_amd64 gives "XZ-compressed data is corrupt"]

Like I reported earlier, burning a CF from a debian lenny using
voyage.update script got booted, but it lands with a garbled screen
with the horizontal lines (the squeeze live works fine with the same
monitor and the same machine i.e. vga card). I tried to change the vga
mode in kernel description with 'vga=0', 'vga=791' and 'vga=781'
respectively, but the result is the same. This is voyage specific (all
other live distros including debian squeeze and installations work
perfect with the same hardware).
BTW, it is worth mention that the keyboard does not freeze (does not
stop responding), but ctrl+alt+del, ctrl+alt+Fx or any other keyboard
inputs do not seem to work either, forcing me to cold-boot.
What do I need to do to get rid of the garbled screen? Inputs appreciated!
