I think there are two solutions depending on you personal preference.
1. If you have Alix 2d2, with 44 pin IDE laptop drive header, consider
using IDE to SATA adapter:

This, if you have 2.5 drive.
2. For external drive using 2.5" or 3.5" enclosure, consider using
