It seems obvious now that you write that.
Anyhow: mpd is not running, but i've seen the light why:
root at voyage:~# mpd
listen: bind to '0.0.0.0:6600' failed: Address already in use (continuing
anyway, because binding to '[::]:6600' succeeded)
output: No "audio_output" defined in config file

Aborted
It seems to abort because it can't find an output device. I thought i could
do this step by step, but everything needs to be in place all at once, it
seems. Fair enough.
Same for the library. I plan to mount an internal disk but it's not there
yet. NFS won't work either because i don't have any linux boxes running,
only windows and that requires samba (i think) and i'm not ready to take the
hurdle of installing (and configuring) packages (yet).

It does not seems to be running, but it seems to be installed somewhere:
root at voyage:~# whereis lighttpd
lighttpd: /usr/sbin/lighttpd /etc/lighttpd /usr/lib/lighttpd
/usr/share/lighttpd
root at voyage:~# lighttpd
2011-12-30 08:54:23: (server.c.588) No configuration available. Try using -f
option.
How do i proceed from here?
I'll come back whith more results when the setup is more complete :) The DAC
i'm going to use is in bits and pieces, unboxed and without a power supply
(and it's the only USB DAC I have). But I'll manage to get it up and
connected somehow.
Thanks for the initial help.
Kind regards, Marc
