Some people at our local LUG have had success with the bithead
products: http://www.headphone.com/headphone-amps/amplifiers/headroom-total-bithead.php

I am personally using this tiny Icemat audio usb device that came with
a set of headphones that I bought years ago. It works great, has a
tiny footprint, and sounds decent (better than most laptops). You can
buy them separately
(http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX18508(ME).aspx) in the
$30-$50 US range.

On of our LUG members says the startech model works fine for him
(http://www.memoryexpress.com/Products/PID-MX25819(ME).aspx) as well.

I used a local store for the above URLs, who posts the SKU and other
data that should allow you to source or order from your own dealers.
