[Voyage-linux] Problem with resolvconf

I am using basic Voyage Linux v 0.7 in a Soekris net 5501 on a hard drive.
I have set up eth0 with a static IP address, and left eth1-3 undefined, in
/etc/network/interfaces; I have inserted a "dns-nameservers" line (defining
one nameserver, my local caching DNS server using dnmasq) and a "dns search"
line in the definition of eth0 in the interfaces file.
As I understand it, by default Voyage Linux 0.7 uses resolvconf to set
nameservers; I have done nothing to turn it off; I haven't touched the
default startup setup.
Resolvconf seems, however, not to be picking up the nameserver definition on
startup; whether I rely on the lines in /etc/interfaces, or add the
nameserver and search lines to /etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base (and
comment out the lines in /etc/interfaces). It will however set nameservers
if, after boot, I run "resolvconf -u" (relying on the /etc/interfaces
lines).
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in anticipation of help.
