For the records: I tried the Alix with a 2.6.38.5 kernel. With QB-9
in class 1 mode, same as before. 
The QB-9 in class 2 mode was never detected at all as a sound card with
all machines I tried before. This was different now: It is detected, but
as a "full speed" device (class 1), claiming to be able to play up to 96/24. 
And, it is locked as usual to the "96" and doesn't play anything. 
I also tried the proposed different orders of switching on and plugging
in as described in other posts---didn't make any difference.
