Well I did find my mistakes.
from my /etc/network/interfaces:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.128.128.222
netmask 255.255.255.0
# network 10.128.128.0
gateway 10.128.128.1
# dns-nameserver = 68.94.156.1
dns-nameserver = 68.94.157.1
I misspelled address
and it did not like 2 dns.nameserver lines.
The errors it showed were not very helpfull, if it did not like something it
would say "cannot read file interfaces", that originaly led me to believe that
I messed up the permissions when I edited the file. learning curve.
