What are the circumstances in which you see the old name? Network
name resolution is very different than hostname.

Back to this question, check your samba config. you can hard code a
netbios hostname in there. Your other hosts may have simply cached
the lookup, so the old name works. If you change the IP does the old
name still work in the same circumstances?

Finally, you might have an entry in a hosts file somewhere.
