[Voyage-linux] Configure MPD/ALSA to send volume commands through serial port

Hello all,

I'm trying to find out whether it is possible to configure MPD and ALSA
to send out volume commands to the serial port. I had the following in mind:

1) In the manual for mpd.conf it is listed that I can set the
mixer_device seperately from the device where audio is send to. So the
audio and volume controls can be two seperate devices.
2) Then I would need a sort of virtual (modified) midi driver that can
send the right commands to the serial port.

Has anyone ever tried this? Is it even possible or is my logic flawed?
