I'm afraid something went wrong on the mailinglist. Only now all

Did you try to do chmod -R 777 /var/lib/mpd. As far as I understand you
only checked permissions on the music folder.
In addition, I prefer to keep the sticker, db file, etc on the external
media. If for some reason you would like to switch to a different hdd
(friends' or different collection) you don't need to rebuild the database.
