This is known.  Try set "options snd-usb-audio index=-1" in /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and reboot.

Check with amixer (not alsamixer) to see if it is mute:

root at voyage:~# amixer

Some settings is set to [off], then probably muted.
