I'm afraid I'm misleading you.

That's the point 'currently down' : Accessing this station makes mpd
freeze.

I'd like to keep the station in the list because it starts broadcasting
again some time after its hiatus.
However each time checking whether this station is alive or not, mpd
freezes. 
That's the problem I'm facing.
