A few months ago I was able --with the help of Punky and some of you on the list-- to get Voyage Linux running on a Alix 3c2 as a USB music server using MPD (music player daemon). There has been interest from the audiophile community in this setup, but the majority are not Linux savvy to try and tackle installing the software. There would be interest in the hardware if the software was much easier to set up. I then bega to thnk of putting together an image of Voyage Linux with MPD and ALSA already setup. The last part would include some kind of mini web server for all the configuration (MPD directories, music files, NFS shares, restarting MPD), this way setting up the music server would be as easy as configuring your wireless router. That is: download CF image (Windows, Linux, or MAC), write image to CF, boot ALIX, and finally log in via web browser.

Today, I came across a page on the Voyage web site that I must have missed before: the Voyage Linux customization framework. Is this basically the same thing that I want to acomplish? Rolling a Voyage Linux image specific to a certain task, while omiting unused cruft?

Can one run a web server on an ALIX without using too much RAM and resources?

P.S. My ALIX, as a USB music server, has been stable with no crashes or audio issues since the initial CF install. Thanks again to all who helped.
