Josh,
I'm having the same problems - I've patiently followed this thread and now have seen that you have had success. Congrats! The exact list of steps you used is a bit hard to follow, so let me tell you where I am:
I have an Alix 3c1 2G CF, running Voyage 0.6.1
I have succeeded in getting RO function to work again, after installing samba from apt-get sources, using:
mv /var/lib/samba /var/tmp/samba
ln -s /var/tmp/samba /var/lib/samba
I have changed smb.conf adding passdb backend = tdbsam and private dir = /var/lib/samba. I have commented out: smb passwd file = /etc/samba/smbpasswd , since it doesn't seem relevant with the above changes
I have then pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/etc/samba/smbpasswd to populate the backend database.
I now continue to have permission issues trying to access the samba shares set up, via Win XP. Doesn't even see my workgroup complaining of permission issues.
Any input would be helpful, and perhaps a listing of your smb.conf would shed some light on my issues.
Thanks! Tim
