Hi,

alix boards don't have such a current meter on-board.
About your goal, I'd rather take a scope and view the 5V supply of the USB at different input voltages, starting at 5.0V going up to 20V. Also you should compare with different power supplies.
You shouldn't limit your power supply to what it just needs.
Please let us know your findings.

Best regards,
Michael Steinmann

2012/1/22 linux123 <24bits@comcast.net>

Hello,

I am using Voyage Linux MPD Version: 0.8 (Build Date 20111030) with an Alix
2D2 board for my music server which connects to an Ayre QB9 external USB
DAC. I was wondering if there are any ways to view/ monitor actual power
usage of the ALIX board via software based sensors included with this Linux
distribution or thru add ons? I saw that there were some basic Temp sensors
available but nothing about power usage..etc

My primary reason for seeking this information is that I am powering my Alix
board with a laboratory grade benchtop linear power supply that is variable
from 0-30v. At the moment I am feeding it a little over 15.5v & .33mA but
can't tell how much of that power it is actually using without breaking out
a volt meter/clamp. Its not the end of the world if I have to do it this way
but thought it would be much easier if it could be done via software
instead. My goal is to feed the board exactly what it needs to run and
supply power for the USB port and not a spark more as to keep electrical
noise/interference to a minimum.

Thanks for your time and any info you can provide.
