If there is no boot loader installed and the partitions on the CF card are not marked as bootable, you should still be able to boot from the IDE drive even with the CF installed, as long as the IDE is properly jumpered to be a slave.<br>

you can mix IDE and CF, but since the CF is set to master by the alix hw design you MUST set the IDE drive to slave.<br>Of course it then boots to the CF because it is set to master.<br><br>Michael<br><br><div class="gmail_quote">

IDE port and CF are visible to system as the same device. So if you<br>
want to boot from IDE device you have to unplug CF card. Then board<br>
bios will try to boot from IDE device.<br>
<br>
You can't mix IDE device and CF card. This is limitation of the<br>
hardware on Alix board.<br>
