Your problem seems to be others, although the incorrect links of dhcp and logrotate in /var/lib will be fixed.

I may have a dead battery (2.6 V instead of 3 V). The DHCP client in 0.8 handles this fine but the one found in 0.9 rc1 and the daily build from 2012-10-22 does not. I just booted into 0.8 and the clock is set correctly for GMT. In 0.9, it was set for the year 1943 (epoch?). In 0.9, I set the clock to the correct time and then I received a DHCP lease. Powering off and rebooting gave the year 1943 and the same error.

2.6 V is a little low but I'm surprised there is a problem with the clock. I thought it would be much lower than that.

I am not sure if my battery will charge -- I have not used this machine in at least six months. If not, I'll order a new one. I looked it up and it is supposed to be a rechargable battery. Right now, it is at 2.88 V so it seems to be recovering.
