Hello!
Thanks for your response Punky. I followed your directions and get this:
(basically the same thing)
voyage:~# dpkg -i ed_0.2-20_i386.deb
(Reading database ... 10974 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace ed 0.2-20 (using ed_0.2-20_i386.deb) ...
Unpacking replacement ed ...
Setting up ed (0.2-20) ...
update-alternatives: unable to make
/usr/share/man/pl.ISO8859-2/man1/editor.1.gz.dpkg-tmp a symlink to
/etc/alternatives/editor.pl.ISO8859-2.1.gz: No such file or directory
dpkg: error processing ed (--install):
subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Errors were encountered while processing:
ed
I even tried to create a "editor.pl.ISO8859-2.1.gz" file, but it made no
difference, neither did a "--force-all". Forgive me, but Im a SuSE man, so
'apt' is new to me...
No, I did NOT get ethereal to install... atleast running "ethereal" from a
command line gives me a "no such file or directory" error, so I presume not.
I have looked through the filesystem looking for the executable ethereal
file, but did not find one...
Thanks again for your help.'
