Nice thanks Rasjid.
In the future (Sorry but at this time I have not time) there should be a
wiki entry
to update over ethernet, because I think on high tower you don't have serial
support, or do they?
At least I have not ...
And there should be a note aboute how you can "clone" you current system to
the backup partition.
I think not all users of voyage do know how to us dd to copy first to second
partition.
If they all know, sorry for the "insultation" ...
I use this for critical tests BEFORE I update the whole system. I don't want
to create images and
images so I update only some aspects of the system until everything works
fine and after that
go on ...
Of course there should be a step by step guide WHICH files must be edited
after use dd like the most
importend something like:
##########################################################################
To dump hde1 to hde3 you must mount /dev/hde3 to for example /mnt and do:
cd /mnt
dump -0 / -f - | restore -rf -
Now you have a copy of the root fs from hde1 on hde3
Don't forgett to change / mounting in /etc/fstab to hde3
and update lilo info
You can now boot system on hde3 with
lilo -R Linux2
reboot
if boot is ok you can edit /etc/lilo.conf on hde3 i.e. /
and change for example default to this label and so
the backup system is booted default until you reboot with
lilo -R Linux
reboot
and run lilo of first system which installs the first system
again as default boot system
##########################################################################
As I said I have really no time at this moment (and it will stay on some
weeks) ...
I try to read also my missed mailing groups which has a total of 2500 mails
at the moment so ...
BTW: Folks don't you use a log partition to log what is going on on your
clients like temperature etc???
I have created a "small" log partition with symlinks.
In future releases it would be nice if you could elect between "plain"
installation and with "log partition".
See also the problem (I don't remember if it was dhcp or what)...
If you are interested to support this in the future I can give more
information we can discuss here.
My 2 cents
