I am a little confused on your sequence of events here:

OK, so what I read here is that you used these instructions:
http://wiki.voyage.hk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=how_do_i_install_voyage_on_a_usb_flash_drive
Which completed properly for you, and you were able to boot with the
card installed on the ALIX board. Is that correct?

Here's where I get confused. First, because I don't see specific
instructions for how to install to a CF reader. Are you saying you're
installing to the USB CF reader as if it were a USB key? That would
then mean you're doing this on another system first...

...And this would also suggest doing the install on another machine
first. What's getting me is that previously you said you were booting
off the CF car on the Alix board.

That's my plan too.
For the record, I did the USB Flash installation with extLinux:
http://wiki.voyage.hk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=how_do_i_install_voyage-current_on_a_usb_flash_drive_with_extlinux
I'm wondering if that's part of my own problem; I did do the
installation using a USB CF card reader as if it were a USB thumb drive.
