You should be able to get a higher resolution with the lxfb module.
(Assuming 3d3 is a typo, or is equivalent to the 3c3).
I haven't brought up X, but I do have the framebuffer displaying
1280x1024 at 32bpp.
Why do you need X? My solution to your problem would be to run the
applications on the 3c3, but display the GUI on a remote X server.
There are free X servers available for Windows, and you don't need X
or VNC installed on the 3c3. You just need the DISPLAY environment
variable set, or use the --display flag to the application.
from memory, SSH into the box and use the command: xterm --display host:0
where host is the name of the PC running the X server. xterm may not
be the best choice of terminals, I think it's a bit hungry.
