[Voyage-linux] strange slowness possibly related to read-write root

Hello,
I'm running Voyage 0.6 on an ALIX.2D13 and experiencing some strange
behaviour, both with 0.6.1 and 0.6.2. My analysis is currently limited
by the fact that I can't access the console, but maybe some of you
have an idea what's wrong?
* shutdown takes several minutes
* booting takes around 15 minutes (it takes long until the machine
responds to ping, and then another several minutes for sshd to respond)
* sometimes calling /bin/sync takes very long -- up to 2 minutes. I've
mostly observed this while the root device was mounted read-write, but
also to a lesser extent in read-only mode.
It seems to be related to write access to the CF card, but writing a
large file and subsequently syncing doesn't usually take longer than
it should. Does CF have trouble with non-sequential writes?
I'm wondering whether any of you have experienced similar behaviour.
Is this kind of thing to be expected? Any idea how to diagnose further?
Cheers
Robert
