You do what you have to do to get the work done.  One other option is to

Usually the ESC key gets you to the grub menu (generally it is hidden by
default, with a timer counting down until it launches the default entry).

Once at the grub menu, use the arrow keys to select the kernel line,
then use "e" to edit that line.  You should be able to insert the NOAPIC
option, the order does not really matter, but I would just put it at the
end.

Of course these instructions are for GRUB, I have not actually used the
voyage linux linux live CD as my laptop runs Linux natively.

It might be easier to use a Ubuntu 9.04 live CD/USB (or any other modern
desktop orientated distro) as it comes with a newer kernel.
