Hi,
Check to see if your disk is formatted with label ROOT_FS. And look at
the dmesg to see if the disk device could be attached.
The live cd kernel is the same as the installed kernel. Also show us
the "cat /proc/partitions"
Most likely, append "all_generic_ide" to kernel parameter at grub prompt.
