Jeff,

thanks for the AT command ref.

The firmware is surprisingly old for a 'new' model card:
 ati
    Manufacturer: Sierra Wireless, Inc.
    Model: MC8790V
    Revision: K1_0_2_4AP C:/WS/FW/K1_0_2_4AP/MSM6290/SRC 2008/08/26 13:18:25
    IMEI: 35...
    IMEI SV: 2
    FSN: D680419072010
    3GPP Release 6
    +GCAP: +CGSM,+FCLASS,+DS

But it is not a firmware crash:
  at!gcdump
    No crash data available

The SIM commands get errors (same in either SIM slot):
   at!auth
      ERROR
   at!iccid
      ERROR

So now I'm looking at the Alix6c2 manual where it says that the BIOS does
not properly set GPIO1 and this controls the selection of the SIM card.

 Also noticed:
card is more stable using just usbserial
but when using "sierra" module, either 1.2.9c or the latest 1.3.1b,
the driver sometimes spits out a lot of debug and then
"Disabling IRQ #15", which is fatal.
