... check with "apt-cache policy openssl" and "apt-cache policy 
libssl0.9.8" which versions are available. lenny provides packages with 
newer version number. 

you have to "apt-get install openssl=VERSIONNUMBER_FROM_APT-CACHE_POLICY" 
to upgrade/downgrade to the right version.
