[Voyage-linux] 0.8.0_amd64 gives "XZ-compressed data is corrupt"

I have been installing in partition 1 so can't help you there.
You can get extlinux as described here:
http://wiki.voyage.hk/how_do_i_install_voyage-current_on_a_usb_flash_drive_with_extlinux.txt
but since the syslinux site (includes extlinux) has been down, you should get it from here:
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/boot/syslinux/
