Hi All

i tried to untar the voyage-current.tar.bz2 that was created on my
office machine with the --numeric-owner option, but still had the same
permission problems on the untarred files. i checked first the chroot
dir and there were the permissions right. but then i saw that the bzip
is created from the binary/live/filesystem.dir directory and there the
permissions are wrong. i compared it with the files created on my laptop
that worked fine and saw that there all the permissions were like they
should.

so there has to be a difference between both of them. i have installed
ubuntu oneiric on both of the machines, and the live-build package is
the same (2.0.12-2. i had to use an older version as the one shipped
with the current version of ubuntu is already from the 3.0 tree).

finally i got the idea what could be the problem/difference. on both
machines i build the voyage in my homedir, but in contrast to my home
machine where the whole system is on a encrypted partition, on my work
machine only the home-dir is encrypted (with the default ubuntu
configuration/installation). so i move the whole stuff to /alix and that
solved the problem, the image/chroot/filesytem.dir is created just right
and the system runs fine on an alix board.

i suppose it is a problem of the "ecryptfs" filesystem used by ubuntu to
encrypt the homedir. or could the "relatime" mount option be the cause
of the problem?

i just wanted to write that down so that if in the future somebody runs
into the same problem :-)

greets
  KoS
