I traced this problem back to the handling of the ACPI BIOS information. Apparently the Alix3d3 
(rev.8) BIOS is not totally correct in its reporting of IO regions to the OS. As a result, you see a 
resouce conflict for the GPIO and MFGPT IO addresses. This in turn causes the device registration 
calls to fail as you have seen.

The cs5535_mfd and Alix drivers can be fixed for the ALIX BIOS but in the mean time, try adding 
"acpi_enforce_resources=off" (without the quotes) to your kernel boot options.
