i experienced the same thing, but another one more:
the CF-Card became hdb, and so, of course the kernel didn't
find the root-fs :(.
i can't exectly remember how it came to that, i think i took the
card from a WRAP to a Soekris, but would probably happen when you take
it to another revision if the same board where for some reason the
ide controller changed.

so, whatever that solution is, should probably be done with
/etc/udev/rules.d/z20_persistent.rules as well.
